It sounds like he let off the gas. If you're ever in a sliding situation like that, the worst thing you can do is totally lift or hit the brake - because when the wheels gain traction at an angle, you're very likely to flip; just like this case.
If you watch any of the pro stock or top fuel drivers, they keep peppering the throttle to get the car as straight as possible before letting off.

I didn't notice til a buddy of mine watched this. Thats the track that we race at. Its one of the best hooking tracks around. Its also the track that a guy was killed right before the Mardi Gras event. His car went over the guard rail and was cut in half by the time board.

damn.. wrecks like that at the top end are usually worse because of the speed youre carrying by the time your up there.... him easily being in excess of 100mph with some 4" wide tires on the front and all that traction out back, make it far more difficult to straighten it back out once something goes wrong...
any word on the driver? was he ok???

We saw a guy in an orange GTO at the WSN in Orlando do something similar a few years back. Jumped the gaurdrail and everything. That is scary as hell.
