Advice for theft of Motor from shop
A friend of mine had his motor stolen out of the passenger side of his car while at a shop he sent it to. The car had set there since Novemeber of last year with no work performed on it at all, and the hood was damaged as well. The motor was a very expensive motor and the shop says they wont claim it on their insurance, what does he need to do? Thanks and as of right now, for legal purposes, I cannot tell the name of the shop or individual, but they very well could be a sponsor or ex-sponsor on here. Thanks for any help.

I don't know why I read this, but it reminds me of a pic of the engine I was interested in buying, being sold here by ws6xxxxxx (x's to protect the innocent).
The pic he had posted showed the engine sitting in the passenger seat of the car. I believe everything was at a former sponsors shop, in upstate NY. This is a strange post.

I don't know about the strangeness of this thread but tell your friend to use small claims court if under $5000 and get an attorney if over that amount.
File a police report of the theft ASAP. Let the cops ask this guy where the engine went.

Motor was well over $5000, shop says they are not claiming it end of story, the shop stil has car and another pretty expensive part, does he need to go ahead and get the attorney general involved?

It was a longblock and the passenger seat was taken out along with the center console to fit the long block in there, a police report has already been filed according to the shop, he is still waiting on a copy of it.

For all you know the shop stole it/sold it or something? I wouldnt trust that they got a police report if they arent willing to file a claim with their insurance. it sounds shady as **** and I wouldnt trust anything they say. You're friend prob needs to start making some moves and get things done himself.

I would definitely consult with a lawyer and see what they say. Has your friend got a reciept, or work order to prove the car was under the companies care? If so that will prove that they are at fault for not securing the vehicle/engine.
If a work order or reciept is available, he may want to threaten the company with a BBB report. That may push them to file it under their insurance, but only if he has proof that it was in their care.
Hope this helps.

if said car was "shipped" to said shop, the receipt from the shipper will be enough evidence to prove said car was at said shop by said owner. Said owner should have some sort of estimate from said shop about type of work to be performed on said car, there-by, proving said engine was included in said car when shipped. If all that is the case, said shop is responsible for said car, inside contents as well, while work is being performed on said car. The 30-90 day rule of responsibility would not apply to a vehicle sitting there "awaiting" for them to work on it. Said owner should contact police themself, mostly to double check with the police that said shop has indeed filed a police report, and as said ower of said car, he is entitled to such, although it may cost him $5-$15 or more for the report. If no report has been filed by said shop, said owner should file the report at that time, but make sure to back date everything to said times of disappearance.
However, if said car was "dropped off" by said owner, or an aquaintance, the shipping of said car cannot be fully determined. At that time, only an estimate from said shop will be proof that said car was in said shops possession at time of theft. Said estimate should be dated.
Does said owner have such documents?
