Go to the parts store and get 'MAF cleaner', it's basically carb cleaner but safe on the plastic. Take the air cleaner lid off and undo the hose clamp from the bellow [that goes to the throttle body] so you can get to both sides of the MAF and hose it off real good with the MAF cleaner. DO NOT touch any of the little wires/parts in the MAF, they are fragile.

in my experience its all where you drive.
i get around 10-12 mpg. when i bought it in july i did EVERYTHING. engine oil, trans oil, diff oil, fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve, spark plugs, wires, decarb (i used what people call seafoam but this **** is way better), injector flush and i still get the same mileage. my fuel adaptives are perfect so ive got no vacuum or injector leaks. the o2s are switching very fast. my cats flow great. i even tried shifting at 2000-2500 rpm and completely grandma drove it. still got around 12 mpg.
the only thing that didnt change was my route. i live in a very small extremely populated area. from my house to my work is about 4 miles but it has about 7 stop lights. all of which tend to be red most of the time.
its not always the car or driving habits.
