Default engine knock

Hey all was wondering what you think of this problem i believe I have. When i start my car up cold, the engine sounds like it is low on oil (engine knock). After about 2 min at idle it goes away and will not come back until the engine is cold again. There is plenty of oil in it and doesnt feel sluggish at all. Also there is plenty of oil pressure so im sure its not the oil pump. Any help would be greatly appreciated

This is very very common, Its called piston slap. Most of the ls1 cars that Ive seen have this, My dads 04 z06 did this as well after 40k miles. My 02 Z28 does it as well. Its no big deal really, It just sounds like crap untill the engine gets to temp! Now if it starts to get louder over time then you may need to worry otherwise its no concern!

maybe you have to thick of oil in there do you use 20W-50? if you are up north in the cold months you dont want to use real thick oil or could be the piston slap thing but ive never had that problem with mine

Never had the piston slap "problem" either but it's obviously very common. I always read on here that it's nothing to worry about. If you want another opinion (probably just want support for a law suit against GM) go to pistonslap dot com

I love the sound of piston slap on a cold morning. M dad asked why my car sounds like that, I told him it was a prototype diesel Camaro lmfao.

I heard putting a slightly thicker oil in while quiet it down

Yes, but it's harder to start. Sacrifice a quick start for good sound...
