Default crazy burnout / loss of control lol

Ok, here's what went down. I have a 99 z28 with cutout and lid with auto 2.73's. My friend just bought a 99 Trans am with auto that someone apparently put in 3.73s. We wanted to race just to see, I don't have TCS , and he does. He left his on and we went from a dig. I have had my car for almost 3 months now, and know about how much spin is usually there, not usually much, but I havn't got on it much lately. Anyway bot hit it and I start spinning thinking it'll grab and go about the time his TCS disengages and he takes off good. well I was wrong I start smoking the hell outta my tires and he takes off and looks back and said it looked awesome from his view, I almost killed myself because it was a small road area, and I didn't let up enough till I fishtailed it almost 90 degrees in both directions. the whole point of me telling this story is to ask a question of HOW? My tires are pretty good and I haven't ever intentionally burned out in it. I didn't think 2.73's would smoke 'em like that and fish tail everywhere. Another question would be is with just his 3.73's would it have been a good race or would he have left me since that is the only mod on his car?

Was there a big difference in temp. from when you got the car till now.As soon as the temp. drops it will gain HP or you just hit your power band just right.

it was quite a bit cooler, especially this morning when this happened. It was about 60-65 degrees outside. We went from a stop so I dunno. We also did a roll from 30 and I got him bad because his didn't shift to first.

The cooler temp makes it harder for tires to hook up so that was probably the problem, just slowly roll on the gas next time.

2.73 = harder to START spinning, but once they break loose and build speed they're more likely to keep spinning

but yes, cold tires and cold pavement suck

That makes sense. I didn't think about cold pavement, and yea, I hadn't been but 1/2 mile before we did that so tires were very cold as well. Yea, well now ya'll make it seem obvious and I feel dumb for asking.

Tell him to turn off his traction control next time. Its not for racing, its for bad weather.

Live and learn man Practice rolling into the throttle and you'll see a big difference.

Once a low gear like a 2.73 starts spinning it will spin foreeeeeeever. Makes for a hell of a smokeshow though

Yea, if he had his traction control off we may have had a problem, as in our *** ends colliding. HAHA. Man, that would be the winner on America's Funniest Home Videos. No seriously, I was driving some earlier today and didn't have a prob with it as much, but it was slightly warmer and before I got on it from a stop, I had been driving a bit and the tires were a lot warmer probably. Looks like I need to learn a little more about traction issues etc and how to handle things like that properly so I don't kill myself one day. I'm not one of those dumb retards that go around revving and burning out everywhere adn almost getting in wrecks a lot etc. I try to respect what I have , and I guess things happen sometimes, I just gotta learn how to control it better.
