Default PCm recalibration after gear change

Hello,

I am new to the forums. I am doing an LS1 swap to my 1989 Firebird Formula.
The motor and transmission are already under the hood of my Formula. So I am planning to upgrade the rear differential.
I have 2,73 gears and I plan to upgrade that to 3,23. My mechanic that is doing the swap says I will have to send the PCM to tuner in USA for recalibration. My question: is it really necessary to send PCM overseas for recalibration. Maybe there is some PCM programmer that I can buy and use to recalibrate the PCM?
Thank you for answering my question.

Kind regards
Marcin

You can use a handheld programmer to recalibrate it.

If you are using a manual transmission, there is no need to recalibrate it. Only if you use an automatic transmission.

One of the sponsors to the right will have what you need.

Great!
Thank you very very much. I have an automatic transmission, the engine/trans combo is from 1998 camaro.

Which programmer should I choose. Diablosport or Hypertech or something else?

Thanks again for help.

Cheers!

You will need a 98 Specific tuner if you are using the 98 PCM.

I think the only one that is made for 98's is the POS PowerProgrammer.

Or you could opt for entry level HPTuners or EFI-Live for around the same price, plus you will be able to change more things, as well as scan the vehicle for codes and operating conditions.

Yep, the '98 is the red-headed stepchild....

EFILive or HPTuners is the way to go. I use HPTuners, but am really interested in EFILive since it has a little more capability when dealing with 98's (segment swapping).
