Default Replace "Leaky" Front Axle?

Had my oil changed today by autoshop. On the way out, the sales rep mentioned that my "front axle is leaking and needs to be replaced."

What?

EDIT: Now that I know theres no such thing as a front axle, I will get a 2nd opinion.

I think your front cv axles just need to be replaced.....and while your in there, replace the muffler bearings, and the glow plugs. Your clitoral ring seal might just be a little leaky.

Your Rack and Pinion assembly is probably leaking. If so, you need to replace it - pretty much not DIY servicable. If you can do the wrenching yourself, it's probably around $200 for the Rack (remanufactured)

He's gotta be dicking me around. The rear axle was replaced this past summer with a new one.

I was gonna take it to get a 2nd opinion b/c I thought he was full of crap when he said it. I then asked him a place around my city that deals with that kind of replacement and he couldn't even name one place to take care of it.

If anyone knows a good place in Richmond, VA for me to take my car please let me know. I've taken it to a few places and I feel like I was dicked around at all of them.

Do YOU see anything leaking when YOU look? If I wasn't sure I would get 2nd opinion from a reputable shop before I took it back and paid good money have some random faulty part replaced.

You read my mind on getting another opinion.

You said the rear axle was replaced?? As in you have a 12 bolt or 9 inch rear end in there or another stock 10 bolt?

YUP...clitoral rings are best when their warm and moist! The dry ones tend to cause premature foreskin failure

Hey, thanks for the sarcasm man, its very helpful right now.

I apologize in advance for not having the resources, tools, or tech-knowledge to know every single part of my car and how to fix/tweak/mod/upgrade it.

The rear was replaced with a "new" stock rear axle, nothing fancy or hi-performance. Personally, I don't see anything leaking but I will keep an eye out for it now. My car usually sits in the same spot for a few days before I drive it so I will make a note of it next time I run outside to drive it. If I see anything, I will just take it to a decent shop if I ever find or hear of one.

Where was this btw.

If you are on our local board, I'd make a post Some of the guys in RPM have been techs and we pretty much do all of our own installs. A steering rack should be cake compared to the turbo engine builds that are done.
