Default removing EGR and AIR

I'm trying to find out where there are any sites that show how to remove the EGR and AIR systems and if there are any adverse affects of doing this. I know the EGR system, and correct me if I'm wrong, is the exhaust gas recirculator? That just makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever. Putting spent exhaust gases back into the intake? And I have no idea what the heck the AIR is even for. So it doesn't seem to have much purpose to me! lol. I know you can buy the block off plates or just make your own, I just ordered a set, but want to make sure I don't mess something up. Thanks
Nick

Removing the EGR "can" affect fuel consumption. It can also cause pinging in certain conditions and only under part throttle. Both are because PCM is programmed with the extra "gases" in mind. EGR is non-functional at WOT.
Removing the AIR is more for asthetics and weight and is usually done with ORY pipes. The AIR system pumps fresh air to the cats, so some will say it is needed.
After removing my EGR I got 2 codes both are for EGR. My AIR! has never thrown a code yet.

so if you are still using cats then you shouldn't remove the AIR? Will it actually hurt anything if you do? I sort of want to get rid of it but if it is going to hurt my car then obviously I don't want to do it.
Thanks
Nick

Air injection is there to fire cats off sooner for emissions, i dont agree with removing it but it will not hurt cats to remove AIR, they just wont heat up and work as quickly
