Question Engine Accel/Decel

Probably a no-brainer for veterans, but what are a handful of upgrades that focus primarily on improving engine acceleration and deceleration, possibly refered to as "throttle response"? I'm fairly certain a lighter flywheel is among them, but are there any others?

I'm curious because I attended Skip Barber about a year ago and grew fond of the vehicles' ability to match revs much quicker than my Z28 (threw me off for a few laps until I got it right ). The LS1 does fine accelerating, but the deceleration seems to "hang" unless I loosen the gear perfectly when I let out the throttle to shift, and even then it has a bit of hesitation during the "rev-match" period. I've been told it has to do with the torque of the engine, but I'm no expert.

My end goal is to have a street legal autocross/circuit vehicle (sub-frame connectors are my next buy), sound and ride comfort never bother me, in case this alters your choices. (I actually LIKE the whine of a non-syncho gearbox, and dont mind mechanical noises, as long as it's "supposed" to be clattering)

remove any air induction restrictions. like the stock air lid.and clean you throttle body while you are doing that. that is a good place to start.

I have cut the plastic to almost the exact area of the metal air channel that comes with the flowpac, so I don't think there is much more I can currently do to improve airflow with my existing intake system. The MAF screen is the only thing I can see being restrictive but I've heard that its a bad idea to remove the screen.

By cleaning the thottle body you mean...? In all my times of cleaning my air filter I've yet to see anything as far back as the thottle body that warrants cleaning, but then again I haven't really looked.

Thank you! They don't seem that expensive either. Can you recommend a brand/item, and have any idea of the installation difficulty? I've got a basic mechanic tool set, a haynes repair manual and the will to see my car improved; are there any special tools required?

you can clean the throttle body by removing the air lid and the flex pipe that it is connected to. the spray some throttle body cleaner and wiggle the throttle with your hand up and down and keep spraying it, then take a rag and wipe of any deposits on the throttle plate and around it. this should help with the engine idle. a throttle body i the aluminum piece of metal in front of your intake manifold. and don't take the mesh out, it will make the maf read incorrectly. good luck

do a search on it you will find lots of opinions some good some bad. i went with powerbond/slp bc i got a good deal. asp i have heard is the lightest. you need a three jaw puller to get the factory balancer off, a long breaker bar, a new bolt from GM and i used a hawk install tool to get the new one on. do a search there are a couple tools available on here. if you have these it is surprisingly easy to R+R a balancer.

i would not do that unless you are rebalancing the engine. but i am sure people still do it anyway.
