Low speed rolls and 2.73's
So I've had my '02 T/A now for about a year now. The only thing I've done are free mods, including running a straight pipe.
I've noticed since getting back into a performance car with an auto, this particular T/A is kinda weak from a low speed roll....say between 20 to 45mph. It feels like the trans won't downshift and I'm pulling a lead weight out back, until it slowly gets to speed. 50 and above it pulls like great, dropping down a gear and haulin', but low rolls I can see myself getting walked often. Digs are decent.
I usually just leave my shifter in "D". Never tried it in "3", would that help? Could it be the 2.73's? Would a gear change or a stall help cure that? If so, I heard usually try a stall before a gear change, right?
Thanks.

Mine flops like a dead fish from around 40-50. It'll get squirrelly if I stab it around 35 and pulls hard from 55 and up. When punching it below 40, just make sure it's actually shifted into the next gear. Otherwise, you won't get that hard jump. Sometimes mine doesn't do it and it's embarrassing.
I'm looking to get a 3600 for mine. Should cure those dead spot blues

I have two 2.73 A4 LS1 cars with stock stalls, and they downshift to 1st at up to about 37mph and pull very hard. If you hit it from 40 to 50ish it's kinda weak though. But if you're punching it at 25-35mph and *not* getting a strong downshift to 1st, something is wrong. It should pull great at those speeds.

You people saying stall have it all wrong. A stall will NOT cause you to have a different downshift pattern.
If the trans is not downshifting to 1st gear at 35mph and below, something is not right plain and simple. A stall will not fix this issue.

Sounds like something is wrong with the trans.

A Stall won't help it on a downshift like you are wanting it too.. you get a decently sized Stall, and it will be a slug on the highway cause all it will do is flash the RPM's and then start to pull.
A 3600 is a good Stall to go with if you want one. If you want to change the downshift patterns, throw some 3.73's in it. Then you will notice a difference.

I know that a person can adjust the programming in these tranny's, would that help with the downshift?

gears and stall will decrease your mileage but im a firm believer that your right foot affects it the most. i think all the downshift points are adjustable using HPTuners or LS1edit.
