Lightbulb Lt1 vs. Ls1

i don't know if i put this in the right forum for srry if i didn't. i'm debating witch one to buy an lt1 or an ls1 camaro. i'm trying to figure out what the diferances are between as far and price tags... i'm looking to build bout 600hp havn't decided fully on Auto or manual though. i personaly like the ls1 better but i gotta take into consideration the price of each too. The questions that i have are:

1)which would be cheaper to build up to 600hp?
2)which would be more reliable in the long runas a mostly street driven 600hp?

the ls1 is going to get you those numbers quicker, but looking for 600hp is going to take a lot in either motor. heads, cam, intake, exhaust, etc and probably n20. so i'd go with whichever one you like the looks of better and whichever is cheaper. for me, i like the looks of the lt1. if i could get an lt1 for 2k and an ls1 for 5k, i'd buy the lt1 because although the ls1 will mod easier, with the extra money, it would make up for it. plus, as said before, i like the looks of the lt1. hopefully you understand what i mean.

Lightbulb

i though basicly the same thing but i've also though bout POSSIBLY a front end conversion from the lt1 style to an ls1 style if i go the lt1 route i've been looking online here the last 2 weeks the ls1's range from bout 7-10k that i've found so far and the lt1's rand from bout 4-6k. so yea. haven't search every where just getting an idea range.. looked on ebay and cars and some other places.... plus i gotta look into distance to get the car i'm in central ms. and closest one so far for an ls is bout 200 miles and lt is bout 100.

LT1s are way harder to work on.

i would stick with the ls1, they are way easier as for tuning and you can maybe find a 4-5K ls1 camaro put maybe 7K into it and be at 600hp... m6 would be faster to reach the 600 also

After having both I can tell you that the LS1 car is far superior to drive and enjoy, but if you are looking to get 600hp I would get an LT1 car because they are quite a bit cheaper and the internal engine parts are also a lot cheaper. I built a 383 for my 94 T/A for around $3800 and it put down 410 rwhp. I could have easily put a 150 shot of N20 and been close to 580-600 rwhp. Given that you can pick a decent used LT1 car for less than $3500 and then put 5k in the motor and N20, I think it is the obvious choice for your goals. Also, once you get used to working on them LT1's are a piece of cake. LT1 tuning software is dirt cheap, too.

Just the room you have to work with. LS1 engine bays are WAY Less crowded. I did headers on my car in like 20 minutes. I went to do them on a LT1 car, and didn't even want to dick with it.

Lol you ******** get what Im saying. It was not hard at all with the amount of room, where as with the LT1, you could barely even see the manifolds!

LT1's are a pain in the *** to work in, I was so glad to do my swap.

Just the little things with the LSX style Engines are way nicer.

I can do a Spark Plug change in 13 min.

And before anyone calls BS, I have witnesses..

I've had both. LS1 without a doubt. The cost is worth it. It's easier to work on, faster, better on fuel (if you care about daily driving), smoother running engine, and modding is MUCH more rewarding.

IMO, you get a cheaper car, and you get what you pay for.

Reliability all depends on what is done to the car. Both are good engines, LS1 is much faster stock, responds to mods/tuning better and like the others have said it easier to work on. For someone that doesnt know much about either engine 600 hp seems like a pretty extreme goal.

x2, 600hp is stout...Honestly I am not sure if the LS1 block would hold up to that for very long.. the LT1 block would be stronger... looking at FI for this goal?

The LS1 block can easily take 600hp. It is the internals with EITHER block you have to worry about.

I thought you had to get it re-sleeved at minimum around those numbers because of failure.. learn something new everyday I guess.
