Default 02 Camaro LS1 question

I am looking at 2 Camaro's and trying to decide which to buy. One is an 02 RS conv and the other is an 02 SS T-Top. The VIN engine Code "G" is the same on both cars. However, there is a note that says SS=320 HP. Do all Z28 have 305 HP and SS have 320.

thanks flor the help

i was under the impression the RS was the sport version of the v6 model.

but basically...the SS is an appearance and suspension upgrade.

the power upgrades are minimal...and generally the first mods done to an fbody surpass the SS upgrades anyway.

Incorrect.

ls1=ls1=ls1 z28=ss=trans am=ws6
Correct.

An Ls1 is an Ls1 no matter where it is, whether in a corvette, camaro z28 or ss, trans am, silverado, etc. 350bhp from the factory

Default LS1 question

So am I to understand that if the RPO code and VIN read LS1 and "G" respectively that they are 350 horse motors?

The Factory Rating's on the LS-1 in the Camaro Z-28 & SS were 305hp & 320hp from 98-01 and the 2002's were 310hp & 325hp now that is what GM rated the car's @ but they were more HP than was advertised. My 2002 SS A4 Stock made 302 hp to the rear tires so that put's crank HP @ 362 HP which is 37 more HP than factory rating's.

I must agree, an LS1 is an LS1. How much power you put to the ground depends on your set up(transmission, gears, clutch, exhaust, computer tune,ect....)

Both of the cars I'm looking at are stock. So what I hear is that both the SS and the Z28 have the same horsepower, 305

No, they both have the LS1, so they have 350hp.

Not to confuse the situation but the ls1 in the f bodys were underrated on purpose, had to give the vette people a reason to spend the XTRA 20 thousand at the time.

If it were me, the SS. No question about it. It's cheaper, lighter and thus probably faster. But, I don't like 'verts and I do really like SS's due to their hood, so...

All LS1 cars have the same horsepower from (non-ZO6) Vettes to base Z28's. The "Ram-Air" is an appearance modification. It might help a tiny smidge at very, very high speeds.

Also, there are no RS model LS1-year cars. There are "Sports Appearance Package" Camaros, which have ground effects. They can be on LS1 cars and V6's. The RPO for the ports Appearance Package is Y3F. They stopped using the RS badge on Camaros in the LT1 years, which was a stupid mistake fixed with the 5th Gen.

Hi Sharpe, I agree with you on this. I could never understand the big price differences between the coupe and the vert, The vert does not do a thing for me, but at the car shows there is always some guy telling you that the verts are better and your car is junk because its the wrong color and it only has t tops.I just look and smile at them and ask them where thier camaro is[OH no i have a 66 T- BIRD, its public restroom blue.

I hear all the time that Ls1 is Ls1. But I must say, that is not really true! If you do not mod your car (at all) an SS or Firehawk already has the first couple mods usually done to it. For example a Catback dual dual exhaust (pretty good flow for stock from what I gather) and often already have the lid (ie: black wing). Not to mention some of these slp cars have auburn differentials and panhard and such upgrades (which in no way help you out in the quarter from what I understand). We can't just assume that everyone automatically goes out and buys a lid and a catback for their fbody. Hell I didn't on my LT1 nor have I really touched my Hawk mechanically. So I feel that buying my Firehawk allowed me to get a couple of the first level mods out of the way with, and I get the added bonus of having a more exclusive and rare car with nice looks. I guess i'm just tired of everyone always downplaying hawks and ss cars when in reality they really aren't 100 percent equal (unless you are planning on modding your vehicle and not comparing stock for stock). To say that an Ls1 is the same whether it's in a ws6 or base T/A or Firehawk is to say that "bolt-ons" don't mean a thing! Anyone see what i'm saying here? I see what others are saying, but i'm just saying stock for stock (the way they were shipped) is not the same. Am I wrong here?

So how is this true? When you have Ls1 (especially 01 and 02) putting out over 320 at the rears stock? That sounds upwords of 370 bhp to me.
