PLEASE. Only half the people on ls1tech are idiots. But even most of the idiots know that painted headers pick up more than 1 or 2 HP.
They just look pretty bad pretty quick if you don't do something extraordinary to them.

SOME black-painted headers are just painted so they dont rust in shipping and such and the paint normally flakes off and rusts

i thought he was bs'ing me. i can deal with crappy looking headers as long as they flow. and yea he said that everyone on here was arguing with him about his 11 1/2 inch rims he has on the back of his car. i dono. he rambled alot that night. most of which i ignored. sucks though, 95% of my friends drive nissans and i thought id finally met a ls1 buddy. i was wrong. haha

I have used tranny fluid on headers before with good sucess. It will smoke like hell at first, but once it stops smoking the heades will be black and look pretty good. You can redo it easily too. I wouldn't do it on my camaro though.

something about putting tranny fluid on my headers doesnt sound like a good idea. not saying it wouldnt work, it just seems like something bad might happen haha

nothing bad will happen, but it will make a mess. Its really an old dragracer/circletrack thing.

my painted headers which were on the car when i got it only have slight surface rust on the collectors. pretty good i think but no snow/salt here so its easy on them.
