Just remember they need you more than you need them. Take your time, don't appear to be anxious to get it. Be civil to the salesman. Point out a few "flaws", like high mileage, worn tires, stuff like that. Just don''t go overboard on them.

These cars have gotten really cheap. If it has something wrong with it keep looking and no way in hell pay what they're asking.
EDIT: I'd be a little more lenient, forgot it was an 02 so that helps some.
and Theres no WAY in HELL I would pay that sticker price of that car..That would be insane

Also depends if you are going to do the remove and install yourself. The local shops can vary a lot and I'd imagine it isn't very much if you remove and install it yourself.
Better make some friends that know how to turn a wrench. You'll save a lot of money and learn a lot.
Not to worry you at all, i just always share the worst possible scenario. I've had mine since 2007 and no transmission issues till now. Converter isn't locking, but that's a whole other problem. It might not even be the transmission.
