Need a lil help
I've started thinking about getting rid of my Z71 for performance and am looking at the camaros and firebirds.
Now, I don't know jack about these cars (except that they are fast and fine) and after looking on this board I'm even more confused. Basically, I'm looking for a 2000 and up (not buying a brand new on, lose too much money). Is this a good year range? What options should I look for? What motor, trans, rearend? Is the camaro/firebird better or vise versa? If I'm missing anything, please fill me in.
Thanks for the help

Re: Need a lil help
I would say buy a 2001+ model year, they came with the LS6 intake and no EGR. With a stock LS1 you are looking at 345 HP at the motor(FWHP). Only one choice of motor LS1. Trans you can choose B/T the 4L60e or the T56. If you get a converter the 4L60e will get the T56 but stock for stock ill give the T56 the edge. If you get the T56(6 speed) you only have one gear choice (3.42s). The 4l60e came with 2 choices 2.73s or 3.23s. If you get the 3.23s you also have an aluminum drive shaft. The Camaro/Trans Am are basically the same exact car that run the same times. Good Luck Man

There are pros and cons over different years.
Subtle things that us on boards argue over.
Bottomline is all LS1's are badass. For example
the LS6 intake some people swear by really only
gets you about 7hp on the reality stock motor. It was
made for the Z06 vette which has a higher output
and needs the extra plenum room but the manifold isn't
what gives the Z06 405 HP. It was easier for GM just
you use the one new unit.

So would something like this be worth while? Should I waste time looking for a bone stock vs. a mildly modded one like this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2436522425
Thanks for the great info. What kinda lowering springs and shocks should I look into (keeping a good ride with handling) BTW I'll end up with a 6spd for sure.
