98 a waste of time?

I also have a cammed 98. Tuning took some patience, but it came together. Runs like a beast too. As far as swapping in an LS2, if you have the money to do so do it. You'll probably do it anyway. I plan on doing something bigger cubed myself later just don't know what. I don't regret getting it one bit.

Honestly, the only thing that's a waste of time is this thread. Sorry OP, not taking a shot at you personally, but this topic has been covered many times and the result is the same: People that have never owned a '98 continue to spread the false rumor that '98s are "bad". Then, people that have actually owned them come forward and tell it like it is: a '98 is fine.
Here are some of my thoughts as an owner of a '98, '99, '00, and '02 LS1s.....
Not any weaker than a '99 or '00. It was the exact same pump from '98-'00. Pump change was made in '01, to the LS6 pump.
Correct, but that's only an issue if you plan to rev the motor above 6200rpm. And if you plan to do that, you should get better valvesprings anyway (for ANY year LS1), and swap the rod bolts at the same time.
Correct.
The 806s are just as "sucky" as the 853s used in '99 & '00. Only the '01-'02 cars received a marginally better flowing head stock (241s). Even that head was just *barely* better stock. And once ported, all LS1 heads are totally equal.
This is totally correct. The only '98s that have the sail panel bubbling issue are ones built in May and June of '98. If you have an earlier built '98, then you'll be free from this issue.
All model years of LS1s have their little pluses and minuses. '98s give you bigger injectors than '99 or '00, a steel gas tank, an working temp gage, a stronger flexplate than '01+, no (or significantly less than other years) piston slap, and some cosmetic differences that you may or may not prefer (interior differences). The '98s are no better or worse overall than any other year.
