Which 'LS1' should I stay away from?
I'm seeing a lot of LS1's on E-Bay but they are all from different years. I've heard people tell me to try and get an 01 and up model but what are the draw backs to buying an older one (i.e 95-00). I understand you have to use some kind of module with it.
Thanks

First off, the LS1 Camaros and Firebirds were made from 98-02. It is generally accepted that the 01-02's are a little quicker. The 98-00 models had the EGR system, more restrictive manifolds, etc. than the later ones. If you can find an unbeatable deal on a 98-00 then go for it as you can always delete the EGR for free. Then you can put headers on it which would negate the gains from better manifolds with the newer cars and you could also add an LS6 intake (which came on the 01-02 cars).

Infamous, I posted in response to your streetable HP post as well. 98 seems to have a few bugs, as with every first run of a motor. My '98 worked wonderfully FWIW. Go for either a 98 or a 00-02. They all have the larger injectors, 01/02's have the ls6 intake, the 98 can have the EGR deleted. As I suspect you will be putting headers on it the manifolds make little difference. Also the 01/02's have a slightly larger cam, but again I suspect you will end up replacing that as well. Good luck man.

I think the 01-02's actually had a slightly smaller cam than the 98-99's

i've heard from a few pretty good sources that 98-99's have "weaker" rod bolts than 00-02's. that really didnt stop me from getting a 98 but just thought i'd let you know. good luck man.
