i did the free ram air mod, basically ripping out the air dam and cutting the air box. Was easy but you wont see any noticeable gains, just cooler i would think.

Ya I did the same thing to mine.

Also, if you have an EGR system you can cut off the part of the pipe that extends down into the intake tract. Also TB coolant bypass if you don't live in Alaska.

nothing wrong with it, only downside is cleaning your air filter more often if you have a K&N filter that is.

The only problem is you have to be more careful in the rain. Avoid large puddles and trucks which might splash water up over your hood. Hydrolock is a bitch. Happened to a friends Probe GT, but he drives an 03 GTO now.

I dont see how splashing water over your hood would do anything. The FRA mod opens up under the lid, and i dont think enough water could possibly get up there fast enough to hydro lock.

I did it to my car, and I think it is a pretty noticeable difference. Not a 15 hp diference or anything like that but you could tell. I also removed the ribs from inside the lid. I found using a pair of pliars and cracking them out left a pretty smooth surface, and also cut out some of the plastic on the front of the tray to make a bigger oppening as a Ram Air hood was installed on my ta. I honestly dont think its gonna hurt anything, and is a great start until your ready to invest in a aftermarket air box.

It won't do what an FTRA will do but it's worth the effort. Considering it's free its worth every penny

I try it every time it rains. This is my daily driver, and i have never had a problem with it. I even opened up my lid yesterday (roads wet cause its been raining for a week straight) and the filter is completely dry.

I took out my fog lights and made my own setup with dryer duct, some Home Depot stuff, and an SLP ram air duct. I'll get a pic up of it soon.

It was the first mod I did on my 98 Z and I never had a problem. Really don't know if it helped any as I never ran it before I did the mod.

WS6, the new GTO did not come out till 2004. Sure that's what you meant.
