Dwight D. Eisenhower
Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th president of the United States. He was born in Denison, Texas on October 14th, 1890. He grew up in a poor family and was always working to earn money for himself. He attended public schools and graduated from high school in 1909. After graduation he joined the military so he can get a free collage education. During his military career, Eisenhower was assigned to be a second lieutenant in an infantry. In World War I, Eisenhower was a training instructor and commander of a training center. In 1935, he went to the Philippines and served as many executive positions before World War II. After the wars, Eisenhower became the president of Columbia University. He was appointed to be the Supreme commander of NATO by Truman. In 1943, Eisenhower was talked about maybe being a presidential candidate. His personal and military reputation was appealing to the both parties. June 6th, 1944, Eisenhower led one of the most memorable battles of all history, D-day. More than one thousand planes dropd paratroopers to secure the beach or Normandy. When the time of attack arrived, 130,000 troops stormed the beach with about 50 miles of the coast of Normandy. Dwight D. Eisenhower earned lots of respect and recognition for his bravery and precision tactics. When 1952 came around, Eisenhower announced that he belonged to the Republican Party. In June of 1952, Eisenhower retired from the military after 37 years of serving. Soon after retiring, he returned to the United States and began to campaign vigorously. The democrat who ran against Eisenhower was Adlai E. Stevenson. On the verge of becoming the 34th president, he was chosen to run on the Republican Party with Richard Nixon as his vice president. Eisenhower would be running against Adlai Stevenson. Both candidates put a lot of time into they’re campaigning. Mainly, the campaigning concentrated on Communism and governmental waste. Most people voted for Eisenhower
