check your oil, what does it looks like on the dipstick? Are you using a taller oil filter? I doubt 6 quarts is going to hurt but if for some reason when you changed the oil you only pulled out a few quarts and added 6 quarts then you might have a problem.

Actually it is commonly recommended to put in an extra quart for road racing so I overfill mine for HPDEs. No problem.

Why do you use a smaller filter?

I've always used HP1007 K&N oil filters. Also, I use 5.5 quarts just like I told you yesterday AJ.

I always use 6, regardless of the filter. Yet to have an issue, and with the oil consumption issue most ls1's have, it doesn't hurt to have an extra half a quart in there.

Some of the RR/AX guys run 6.5 with no issues. I ran 6.5 my last change but will go an even 6 from now on as my car uses very little oil....

I'm no expert, but a long time ago, there was a thread that showed a pan off the engine and the levels the oil was at when filled with 5.5, 6, all the way up to like 7.5 or even higher, IIRC. It proved that running considerably more oil than 5.5 would in no way cause "windage" -- where the crank hits the oil and causes it to froth, etc. Can't remember the level, but it was a lot.

I always run 6, and IMO, that's better than 5.5. At any rate, it's better for the simple reason that you don't have to keep a stupid half full bottle around.

Finally, someone said it!!!

Same reason for me.

And I run the K&N oil filter only because it has a nut attached to put a socket on! There, I said it!
