Default 408 Build or buy a shortblock

I'm going to spend the rest of my deployment reading and i'm gonna get a couple of books on LS engines. I've assambled a BBC and rebuilt a TH350 so I'm sure I can handle the build but I have zero LS parts so my question is would it be cheaper to get a LQ4/9 or a short block and buy all the little stuff seperate? I get a month off when we redeploy and we have a full service shop with tools lifts and even ASE mechanics at our disposal at Ft Hood.

*edit* It would be going in a 68 Nova I'll go with a LH8 pan and It will be a non ac/ps car like it is now with the sbc, also gonna go carbed at first and maybe injected when the new version of Megasquirt comes out

If you don't have any ls parts yet I would just do a short block or a long block from a sponsor. http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/cate...MID=1&catid=28
