The HVAC (heating ventalation air conditioning) control is run by some little vacuum tubes behind the dash control. Maybe you lost a connection when you installed the dash gauges. It would make a sucking or blowing sound. Put your head under the passenger side dash and listen while you change the control from heat to vent etc. If that is the problem you should be able the hear it. You should hear the vacuum engage and stop, if you continue to hear a vacuum noise that could be the problem

If that it what you think the problem is you can pop the bezel trim around the radio and heater controls off, remove a couple of screws, and pull the HVAC control out a little and check it.
