They are supposed be serialized now to the VIN since there has been so much theft.

Anyway, I find CARB'd Magnaflow on Ebay for $80 right now, so little issue.

Plus I am in Ca but can drive to Summit in Reno if need be.

Love the state, but the laws drive me nuts. If not for family I would be out of here!!

Do you have a exhaust sniff test in California, or is it just a OBD-II scan test?

Just have them shipped to someone out of state and then to you, I'm getting mine shipped and installed up in Vegas. And in 25 years of smog inspections for me here in Cali, I have never had a tech look under my car to even see if I had cats..

They don't need to look to see if you have cats,
your car will fail the sniff test without them.

Default California Catalytic converters

Hello all. I just read a lot of gripes about California laws when it comes to replacing California compliant cats. I have a 1993 Chevy c2500 with 280,000 miles on it that i just bought. Failed the smog (excessive hydro carbons). I did my homework. My mechanic also suggested a new cat. He recommended Magnaflow. Magnaflow does have a California compliant cat, model # 39476. Most online venders wanted approx. $250. I ended up buying it from Performance Peddler after i low balled an offer. I offered $100. They replied with, "their lowest price was $172.10 with free shipping. GREAT!!!!!!!!!! I jumped on that.
Received it in 2 days. I wasn't even charged sales tax. WOW. THAT'S WHAT I CALL GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE. A company that doesn't nickel and dime you to death.
Anyway, i plan on having it installed this weekend and get a retest. I'll let you know.
