Default 98 LS1 starter q

I am assuming the starters don't have shims, but...does anyone know for sure? I'm doing a swap and I'm about to install the starter. My Chilton's says some might, but I've seen a few posts on here that say the 99 starter does NOT have shims.

Does anyone know for sure on a 98 though?

Default Shims

u shouldnt need any shims.... you usually only use shims on a poor quality starter( advance auto, auto zone).. or if the vehicle already has shims on it from a previous starter you should reuse them...........
