New to ls1
I just got a 1998 camaro z28, six speed. It has 85,000 miles. The previous owner, which is a family friend, took very good care of it. That said, I can use some, well any advice.
What are some reasonable upgrades I can do to my ls1 for better performance, longevity, ect. Also how much better is synthetic oil? If it has never had synthetic before, should I switch? This is my very first post, so if its is in excess I apologize! Thanks

The key to longevity is maintenence.
Just about everybody on here would agree synthetic oils are better, and worth the money. There are a bunch of which oil is better threads, so don't start another one
In all honesty, about mods, you really need to ask yourself what you want to do with the car. Daily driver, weekend warrior, occasional track time, all out drag car, etc. etc. As far as relatively little things you notice, some good first mods that are fairly cheap are a lid, exhaust, and subframe connectors.

It has an exaust from a ws6. Also just an slp lid. As for what I want from it...... I want it to last long(of course), I would like to take it to the track every now and then. I am proud of it, and my take on cars is that you buy them to drive them! It would also be nice to be able to shut my friends up! They think American cars are garbage. Eating hondas on weekends sounds good!

Sounds like a pretty good platform.
If you want to shut your domestic hater friends up, you might just have to make it handle really well since they seem to think we can't turn...

how much can you spend on upgrades? air lid, flip yours over and make sure its open and smooth. stockers have hard plastic baffles that restrict air flow. next exhaust catback, headers (if legal / no inspections). for traction sub frame connectors, lower control arms & panhard bar plus sticky tires / drag radials. dont forget a good tune. mail orders just ok, sometimes on a club dyno day a tuner will run a special for like $250. important to get A/F air fuel ratio around 13:1 even on a stock car! with just that you'll smoke alot of street cars. cheers. pm me a fax# if you'd like a copy of a mag article "ls1 dos & donts".

I like my SLP Loudmouth II exhaust I think that outside of their catbacks and their lid. All of their products are overpriced, and claim ungettable gains. Some other "experts" will chime in and voice opinions that I would follow. I have followed everyones advise on here and have gotten my car very well built with boltons.

SLP did the work of converting Z28's to SS. they have good parts (not the old style headers) but they aren't cheap. many sponcors on this board can give you quality parts much less expensive. that said i have some SLP parts on my car. air lid, ls6 intake (discontinued) safety loop. cold air box. cheers!

you came to the right place, alot of sponsors here have good prices and sales. Best bet if your new is Headers, P&P throttle body, gears, underdrive pulley, etc. like said above it all in what you want to do with the car. BTW ws6 stock exhaust is the same as the camaro. unless the ws6 had long tubes and it was transferred to your car.in that case you can knock 1 thing off the list
