Default 2000 trans am a4

im looking at a 2000 trans am a4 dark blue with 40K miles for $10900. I hear that would be a steal but my question is how hard would it be to put a t-56 in it and take the a4 out? Could a newbie do that with some help of a buddies or would it be recommended to leave it be?

T56 is stronger and easier on the pocket book long term. I have one T56 Fbody and 2 A4 F bodies. I will be converting the Formula to a T56. Tired of 2300 dollar investments that back fire in 2 years.

If you put a Stall in that stock tranny you can say bye bye to the 4L60E you have!!!

1. T56 $1800
2. Spec Clutch $500
3. Spec Flywheel $300
4. Slave Cylinder $200

Labor:$500

Thats a good starting Point.

Thats a good deal if you want a car with an A4. But if you want a T56, then keep looking and save yourself the trouble. Do you want to drive this car, or do you want to tear it apart? Ask yourself that question and the answer will tell you what to do.

Agreed, and also a T-56 CAN cost you money due to the fact that driver error is 95% of the reason for clutch replacements or rebuilds. Spec Clutchs ****** suck and the only one to go for is a Textralia or even MAYBE a Monster w/ a Tick perf. Master Cyl.

I would say buy the A4 car and drive it until the trans blows, park it, look for a t-56 swap.

That is a good deal on that TA, but if you want a T56 then look for one the work time and knowledge needed to perform the conversion is beyond someone with limited mechanic knowledge. If you do keep the A4 put a 3600-4000 Stall in it and a tranny cooler and it will put a smile on your face. The 4L60E is not as week as everyone say's and with a bolt on and even mild cam and head cars you won't have many problems with it.

If you drive either one of them normal then auto vs manual is equal in price. If you drive them hard this is how my math ads up:

Auto:
1.Built tranny$1700
2.Awesome stall converter$750

Manual:
1.Built rearend bc its gonna break$2300
2.Good clutch$500+
3.Good driveshaft$350

thats the way I see it.

alright thank you you guys for the input...im planning on a 70/30 type of thing...70% DD in the late spring till early fall type of thing till the winter kicks in here in nebraska then park it in the garage and the 30%thing will be trackish if that makes sense on a built that could be done and performed that way...but the deal may be too good to pass up so i may go a4 or should for that matter
