Default Idler Pulley?? Whats wrong with it?

well ive had my new idle pulley i got at oreilly a couple of months back because i was tired of my car sounding like it had crickets chirpin in the engine bay...so today i finally decided to replace it but i had a problem...

the stock idle pulley has a loose metal peice in the front, and one at the back, i guess so the bolt wont tighten on the pulley so it can spin freely...

well the one i got at oreilly looks kinda the same except for the front has a deeper "groove" and when i put both metal pieces and the bolt, the pulley doesnt move freely...and when i put the belt back on and turn on the car, the pulley just loosens its self...

does anyone know if diff year LS1s came with a different idle pullies? i tried to flip the metal peices around..tried every combination but it still goes on tight...

im thinkin they have me the wrong one...

any ideas?

I had the exact same problem with my 2002 Z28. Did they give you an AC Delco pulley? I installed my new AC Delco pulley and the same thing happened. The pulley would not move. I went back to O'Reilly and had them order me a different brand of pulley. I got a Gates pulley part #38041 and it works like a champ!!! Hope I was able to help.

As soon as I opened this thread I checked your sig
for the year Yes it was a 99.
You need to have the double row pulley swap that GM
changed because of this problem. There is a TSB on it.
Mine was fixed under warranty. You can't fix it without
changing the belts, tensioner, pulley.
Trust me I went through hell having a sweet ride that
sounded like **** especially at idle. People told me all
types of reasons and what I needed was what I said above.
Belt grease, soap or anything won't fix it.

Email me if you want me to dig up the invoice and part numbers.
My service program isn't working or I'd send all the info to you
direct.

tsb 00-06-01-008
12569529 belt
12563327 bracket
12563326 pulley
12569527 belt

parts cost 102.74

I posted this so someone else could find it in a search if
they needed it. My invoice is dated 1/14/03 so its been
nearly a year and its was silenced from day to present.
