Unhappy How many miles..?

can an LS1 Camaro handle? There's this Hugger Orange one on Craigslist in my area:
http://dothan.craigslist.org/cto/1350738195.html
with a lot. Like, around 155k on it. And I don't want to get it if the engine's just gonna blow or something soon. I don't think I'd have the money to repair it and it'd just sit there.. And the interior is not the best. Or I could get this:
http://pensacola.craigslist.org/cto/1314587447.html
which has 89k miles on it, MUCH less. But it's an LT1, and it doesn't have an aftermarket exhaust (even though I like Magnaflow more than Flowmaster, Flowmaster seems to be ok) or Z rated tires or any of those goodies. Plus I generally like a Camaro more than a Firebird. But I have to pick by tomorrow as that's when my cash loan is going through, and I need a car ASAP. What would you recommend?

There are some guys with crazy high miles on LS1's on here who don't have any trouble. But they all have one thing in common, the cars have been extremely well cared for. Just give the car a really good going over, drive it a lot, get a carfax, all that kind of stuff.

Yeah what he said. Ive owned both an LT1 and currently have an LS1, Im pretty partial to the LS1, much better in my opinion, but it really comes down to how its been treated. Drive the **** out of both of them. As always try to talk both of them down, you never know. You can usually find LT1's a bit cheaper. Just an FYI, Z rated tires arent the untimate anymore, W and Y are actually better speed ratings. Damn, that black sure does look good on these cars.

Thanks to both of you, this really helped, I'm not so sure I'd be able to though, I live in Mobile, Alabama, so I'm already sort of going out of my way to see these cars. And I agree, I honestly think LS1's are better. And I didn't know that, I always knew W and Y were more specifically rated, where Z could really be anything above that certain speed, but I didn't know they were faster than Z too. I do have about 500 dollars to spend on it if I get it, do you think putting a chip on it or a cold air intake or something like that would help the engine out? I plan on having this for a while, upwards of 4 years or more.. I might need to go with the one with lower miles.

Oh, and sorry for the double post, but I know exactly what you mean chadaclysm, there's this youtube user I've subscribed to, Bay Area Racing, and this guy had a silver Camaro on there that he'd had nearly 180 thousand on it, and he was still racing it like it was new.

Yeah, my car has close to 96,000 on it and I plan on DDing it for a long long time. I just plan on being nice to it, and hopefully the car will return the favor haha.

Damn, good luck with that haha, I will probably get that Firebird and just try and save up for an STS kit. But I might want to put some engine work on it first so I can go higher than 8 psi and make good use of it.

if you the extra $500 to spend on it now, and cash is tight, I would recommend saving it for a little while, either car may have a few unwelcome surprises that could show their head right after you buy go fast goodies and are out of cash. If we're taking a vote... I kind of like the LS1, even if it is high miles

I like the camaro too. But the mileage is kind of high. So be an american and get a massive loan and build the **** out of it.

Haha thanks, the guy called me about an hour ago and said he sold it though... So looks like I'll be getting the Firebird unless some other magic Camaro pops up. I saw a 30th Ann. Camaro (just white, no orange stripes) which had about 100k miles on it, but it's an auto so I guess I'll be waiting to look for something else, or I'll get the Firebird

I have an ls1 and I love it. But I used to have a 95 camaro with the lt1 and it is still a great motor. I dont think that it is as durable as the ls motors but I dont think you would be disapointed with the lt1.

Oh jeez, guys, I just got a 99 Red Camaro Z28, so I now own an LS1. It was succhhhhh a good find, it's an automatic though, which sucks, but it's only got 70k miles on it and the guy that owned it was 65 so it looks like new Now I just need to find out how the hell to swap transmissions, and with what (which I'm hoping someone on here knows)

Yeah, autos can still be fun, I just think a manual would be more fun. Honestly I'm just happy to have such a nice car haha
