best mod for 500$ or under?
I am getting ready to buy an ls1 i will prob. only have about 500$ to spend right away. What do you guys reccomend I buy? nitrous, headers, cam? or what I am not new to the hot rodding game but I am new to the ls1 game one of my buddies swaped cams and done freemods and ran a 12.40! I was pretty impressed considering it's a t-56 and he's not the greatest driver in the world. another gur put his on the bottle and ran 12.00! I would love to spank both of their asses can you help?

get some pacesetter LT's from TSP (sponsor) right now before the price goes up. you should be able to the LT's and ORY for under 500. skip the juice, what fun is it to have the extra power and then going right back to stock once the juice is gone.

Well, I don't think $500 will get you near 12.00. I would do the basix mods first, then get some more money and do the serious power adders. Some of the basic things would be lid, cat-back, SFC's, etc... That will be $500 or more.
LS1 Edit is a program that allows you to adjust the tuning on your car, you can change shift points, disable CAGS, and many other things.

Killer, as far as the computer goes I'm covered One of my buddies is a freakin genious when it comes to that. How about going with a 4:11 or even a 4:56? will I gain a significant amount if I run descent tires? I know driving it has alot to do with it but I'm sure I can do as well as anybody (not trying to sound like a cocky ***)

like my origanal post. my friend had a stock 99 A4 Z28. he bought a NX wet kit, set it at 150hp, did all the free mods and went 12.10 first time out with the origanal radials. the rest of the car was stock. he paid $650 for it brand new but you can get them under $500 used all day long. you will not get those times with any bolt ons under $500.

For $500, i'd do a lid, catback, and a shifter.
Then i'd work on subframes, wheels (unless you like the ones you get... I don't like the stock 16's) and drag radials.
That'd be your basic stuff, and it should put in you in the 12's. Some longtubes and maybe a cam could follow. After that stuff, i'd work some more on suspension and brakes.

I don't consider headers to be a first mod. I'd say lid and cat-back first. Then he'll have to get LT's and an ORP to fit it. Free mods, TB, all those goodies.... then comes the fun stuff with a nice big cam and some heads.

yeah if your not into the rodding game yet you dont want to start with any heavy project (heads cam) and you realy dont want to accidently over do the go fast juce. BOOM!!!!
headers arnt that bad but to get the full affect from them you want the intake to be breathing free. also a good cat back exaust system to carry it out..
my vote (for what its worth) is for the lid filter and cat back system.. it would be a good ballance with the same goal get the engine to breath better. then go with the headers and y pipe (it will feel like a new car after that)

im with you, not a lot of money. Is your car a 6speed? heres my mods and how much they cost.
1. !cags(skip shift elimin) 20 bucks
2. JSS short stick 25 bucks shipped (If u have factory hurst this is a great mod)
3. lid 75 bucks
4. Cut out 25 bucks.
U have the shifter covered, lid, and exhaust for now for pretty much nothing! You cant beat these mods for the buck. If you buy LT's, your probably gonna need a tune and thats more money right there. I would do what i did and do the free mods.

I would start with PaceSetter Headers before the price goes up & a cutout. Then you have your exhaust system complete. Its always easier to buy the big stuff like headers first while you have cash, finding cash to buy lid & filters is easy to do down the road
