only thing i dont like about my 98 is the perimeter bolt vavle covers and the coil packs bolt directly to the vavle covers. also the pcm connects are 98 specific which means that if you plan to do any kind of tuning that ls1edit is you only bet as predator doesnt make a connector for the 98 pcm.

It took me a year to find what I wanted, an 02. I like the 02 for the following reasons.

- It has the steering wheel controls.
-LS6 intake FACTORY installed.
-A better clutch system.

I have yet to check my car to see if it has the LS6 block. Boy, wouldnt that be great!

I would say '98 isn't the best one... the computer in the '99 and up is certainly better. I think '98s are a lot more finicky when it comes to programming.

My vote would go to 2001 for the best one.... with 2002 a close second.

Not sure on this but I think the oil pump was one of the "weak links" I think after 98' GM went with the LS6 oil pump, they could of also changed this when they went with the LS6 intake...not to sure.

only the 01-02's got the better pump.

Small addition to the list here. The ZO6 clutch actually began at the end of the 2000 model year. M6 cars built at the end of the 2000 production got the ZO6 clutch. Very few people are aware of this, but it's the truth.

I say the 02's are better just because you have a better chance at getting the z06 block.

They are all so close, arguing about years is kind of pointless. 02s are stronger, but not really by a huge amount.

i bought my 00' Z28 M6 for 14k and made the loan for 18.5k. That 4.5k went into mods right away. Easyiest way to do it IMO. After i get some ZR1 rims i want to get a FAST intake.

I am planning to make this car run mid to high 11's on the juice before it's all said and done.
If that's all you want then: Any LS1 + nitrous + tires = 11's

So I'd find one with the least mileage if that's all you want. But I wouldn't be suprised if that high 11's turns into "want mid 10's" if you hang around here much.

There are LS6 blocks in the upper 800 build numbers for 01
Also dont forget the best factory F- Bod manifolds ever produced were 01/02
Over all the 01/02`s are the best outta the box LS1 F-Bods produced. With the aftermarket mods out now days I wouldnt even look at anything pre 01.
Pretty common for a free modded 01/02 M6 to drop into the high 12`s on street tires.

NEVER would you see such from a 98,99,2K

Did I miss something here? Why wouldn't 01's and 02's be dyno'ing virtually the same???
