A lose cable!
don't plug it in! The previous owner did a !lose mod in order to make sure he won races. If you plug it back in, you'll lose every race you enter, even if it's a geo metro being pulled by a goat! 
Seriously, just take a look around that part of the engine bay and you'll probably find the other end. Offhand, I don't know what it is.
Did your dad do any work on anything on the car, or was he just driving it? Is anything not working? a/c, etc.?

No but something weird has been going on, every time i turn on the car, all the gauges do a little jump, like the rpm hits 7000 and the speedo hits 150, the second i turn the car on...then they go back down and start functioning normal as if nothing happens =/ also the trip always resets ?
alright that problem is your battery it is most likely about to die...mine did the same thing.. that connector is the only thing that i can think of that is small enough to fit the coolent sensor. you know where the sensor is located?
