150 mph Trap Speed !!
Ok guys,
I would like to know what is needed to build an LS1 Camaro/Firebird that I can drive everyday and trap 140-150 mph in the quarter with it.
I know of a few Supra's that can do this with large single turbo's and a few other things.
I want to build a sleeper that I can use for street racing!
Lingenfelter Vettes are a good example of what I want to do, but the are way out of my price range.
Any ideas?

Unless you spray the **** out of it, you'll need forced induction to get that much trap. I think Harlan's T/A trapped at or over 140 and he's got what...700 RWHP? Get ready to build the hell outta one forged, strong, and force-fed engine. This is just starters. Nevermind traction issues. You've got a helluva project ahead of you! Check the F/I forum, too.

i dont get some people; "i want 150mph trap speeds, daily driveablility, but i dont want to spend money and i want it to be a sleeper" . speed cost money, 150mph trap speed cost a shitload of money. theres a reason the tuner ls1 cars cost so much, theres probably 20k in the engine alone not to mention all this **** that goes with it to support the power, complete suspension and tranny and rear end build ups, brakes, ect.

I am not trying to burst your bubble but I second what JRP is saying. 150mph traps is no joke. It is possible but it's not going to be done on the cheap (it's not cheap with a supra either) especially if you want to drive the thing everyday.
That being said I recommend a Turbo set-up. So you're looking at around $6,000+ just to start playing. Then add the cost for a built forged shortblock, transmission that can take that abuse (I say forget a 4l60e plan on T350/400 with gear vendors O/D for drivability,4l80e,or a built t-56),rear end that can take that kind of punishment (12bolt might be iffy here but a 9in could handle it) and a solid suspension.Who knows how much final tuning will cost. Plan on it being ALOT.
Costs get high real fast.
good luck!

Lingenfelter 427TT Vette Costs $100K+
Im trying not to go over $50K inc. CAR
So I have about 30K to spend on it.
I'm just trying to get everyones opinions on the best way to go about it.

Do you have the car now? And 30k? If so, call Futral Motorsports---------------> He will get you what you want and you should have some money left over.. You can trust me on this one. He has already gone 140mph in a forged 346ci and spray. His car can be driven daily as well. If you do not mind the idle.

150! Damn Brian! Are we trying to sneak up on Tony's Supra? I've been quietly looking around for a setup that'll net me 130's and suprise a few of the Bel Air boys. Guess I'll settle for second place. Just to let some of you know that are giving him a hard time, Brian owns his own speed shop and will probably do most of the work himself except for maybe the computer tuning. So with $30K I think it's pretty obtainable. And yes he already has the car. Good luck man.

No offense, dude.. but I think you've watched The Fast & The Furious a few too many times..
140-150.. .that's like 8 second times.
8 second daily driver?
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Yeah, I guess so?
I guess the idea of a 9 second semi-street Fbody is impossible. Guess I'll leave that task up to the Supras.

big bore + big cubes + forged bottom end + low compression + race gas + big turbos + bigger intercooler + 4l80e + 9" rear + suspension - weight = 140+ mph traps
Any questions?
$30,000 is probably what it will take to get you there.

if you like the 2jz-gte so much.....put one in an f-body.
800+hp on stock bottom end.......plus it would be bad ***(i think) when you pop the hood....you can pick up a full front clip for $3000
IMO...supra's look like sissy girl cars with a bad *** engine, but ss camaros look bad *** with the american look.

First you're saying "daily driver" and now it's "semi-street".
150 mph traps are way faster than 9 seconds... I have a friend with a '70 Maverick that traps 148 mph, and his car runs 8.0x, and it's "street legal" (barely, but it has valid plates). He had to move the license plate to mount the parachute.. LOL.
I'm pretty sure with a deep enough wallet you could make a 8 second F-body that you could drive on the street. But daily driver? Naah. That car would be unbearable to commute in, and you'd need to have even deeper pockets to keep the gas tank full.
I think your first step to building a car is to have realistic expecations, and I don't think any 9-second car would really qualify as a "daily driver" no matter who makes it... cuz the second it rained, a driving a 9-second car is gonna be "pucker factor from hell".

11 Second Club
hold on dr your saying a guy that has 30k to blow (on top of already having the car) has unrealistic dreams of a low 9 sec street car???
lets see
a forged 427 with low compression
twin turbos (read 750+hp)
with a wet shot for track use only
hey you could even make it sequential(spelling?) turbos to really give it great street manners... turbo cars are nice and quite
set the rest of the car up to handle this kind of power and there is no reason he could not drive this thing regularly... as far as driving in the rain... with street tires why would it handle all nuts???
a car only puts out as much hp as you give it gas...
i can drive my 400hp ta the same as when it was 300 as long as i dont hit the gas...
