Spray it down with a can of engine degreaser/cleaner and then hose it off.

I use foamy engine brite and a hose. Having it warm is a plus as it helps with stubborn grease and dirt.

I would not spray your motor with water, clean it with something like Simple Green.

okay i have two post that are for using water and one saying dont. which is it? the reason i want to use water and cleaner is to get in spots i cant reach with my fingers and i dont want to spend all day and night scrubbing with a towel trying to clean everything but i dont want to hurt any sensors or electrical devices on my car. so thank you for the posts. i would like to hear more opinions and if you have done this please tell me and what you used to clean your engine and engine compartment.

Just spray engine degreaser, let it sit for a few minutes and rinse it off. Very rapid passes over the engine bay to ensure you rinse all of it off. I was nervous at first as well, first time doing it to my LS1. Nothing to worry about. I didnt cover any up.

Oh, and take a before and after picture.

-spray engine bay, engine, underside of hood, everything under the hood with degreaser
-agitate with paint brush
-spray more degreaser-
-agitate again
-let it settle for 2 min
-hose off. use wide, low pressure spray in sweeping passes. just be smart; dont keep the water focused on an area like the pcm or coils, dont spray directly into the alternator, etc
-wipe down as mush wet surfaces as you can
-use leaf blower and/or compressor to blow dry remaining surfaces, crevices, etc
-let it dry in sun for 10 min
-start car, check for SES light

***i usually shove a rag under the intake to prevent the knock sensors from get wet. that about all i do.
