Default ls1 to ls6

I’ve got a 2001 ss and was wondering if its possible to upgrade an ls1 to an ls6

Whats a general cost and things that would need to be done if its achievable

check the numbers on the block you may already have a ls6 block....thats a start

why settle for an ls6 spec motor when for the same cost you can go aftermarket h/c and blow the ls6 away. if your heart is set on a stock ls6 spec motor though you can get the conversion kit from paceparts for like 2k.

I agree with jrp. Why would you want something as mild as an LS6? Not that its slow its just that you could easily get a H/C package from TSP and have alot more power depending on how wild or mild you want to go. Good luck with whatever you choose though.

What would you reccomend as far as h/c for something 'wild'

First you need to decide how much you want to spend then contact a shop such as Texas Speed & Performance or MTI and talk to them about what goals are. Depending on what mods you already have it could be anywhere from $1600 for just heads and a cam to well over $5000 if you are still completely stock.

FYI:TSP has a special on Patriot Performance LS6 style heads with one of their more aggresive cams for a little over $2000.

I would defiantly recommend going aftermarket H/C unless there is something wrong with your LS1. I have seen some mean setups. I think if you choose the right setup you could be making upwards of 420 RWHP on a relatively streetable car. Are you an M6 or A4?

2001 ss m6

engine wise its pretty stock really, just longtubes and loudmouth

also about the 3000k range is my limit for parts
