Factory plugs have a LONG lifetime.
As for needing to change, it depends if your going to mod the car. Nitrous likes a Copper plug like a NGK which for most people here have done to. Their change intervals are much quicker.
Give use some background on your situation.

I change spark plugs at 30K mile intervals regardless of what the manufacturers service interval is. I always check the gap of the old plugs and it always grows with mileage. At 30K miles the plugs could probably be cleaned and regapped, but they are so cheap I just replace them.
Under the hood there is an emissions information sticker. It will have a part number and specified gap for replacement plugs. I would recommend that unless, like said above, you have significant mods or nitrous.

owner manual states plugs and wires are good for 100,000 miles. they might be good for 100,000 miles if it was a normally driven chevy cavalier, but defintly not in a hard driven ls1. you can get a set of ngk's for $18 from ws6store, or ngks and msd wires for $68 from ccperformance
