Now, the Bimmers, Minis and other Euro-trash cars seem to go once a year or 10K between oil changes but...we don't drive Euro-trash, we drive American cars that need all the help they can get. You know what, even if I did drive Euro-trash I wouldn't wait 10K to change my oil; I don't care what my car computer says...
No offense,
but a manager at Jiffy-Screw is not the person that I would be taking advise from when it comes to my car.

"Euro-trash"?
Porsche, Merc., BMW,
thanks for letting me know that those are just Euro-trash

Nope, not Jiffy Lube. And I'm telling you "how" places like that rip you off-I'm trying to help you dumb ***.

Oh, and I suppose you think that other places are better than others when it comes to service centers? Wrong pal, they're all there to take your money and that's the truth of it.

As for Euro-trash, it's a joke man, loosen up a little. You'll have a heart attack if you take things too seriously.

Bottom line is, it doesn't matter what kind of car you drive-10K is too long for an oil change interval...

... how long are oil filters DESIGNED to last?

i know fram has that x2 filter that is supposed to last up to 7,000 miles (most likely the only research and development involved was from within fram's marketing and legal departments), but what are the 10,000 mile guys using?

I do mine at 2500 miles, good insurance for very little cost. It also gives you a chance to give the car and engine a good look over, assuming you are doing the oil change yourself. And you are, right?

With all the oil these freakin things burn you should never need to change it, just keep putting a quart in every 3K and it'll always be fresh.

haha nice.

I've been changing it every 5-6k on a synthetic oil. Oil isnt that expensive so I don't see any reason to push it any further. It really depends how you drive. I drag my car like twice a year so I dont see the need to be changing the oil every 3k. If I start driving my car more aggresively i'll go to 3k changes.

I have a buddy who bought a brand new Corvette in 2000 and the video that came with it that showed how to work everything said to change the oil every 12 months or 12,000 miles! When we were watching it we both looked at each other thinking we heard it wrong, so apparently even GM thinks it's ok. But I personally wouldn't do it in any car I cared about, my winter beater, well that's another story.

I will, haven't done this yet, change the oil on the trans am every 3k miles or every year with good stuff. My landcruiser on the other hand gets a change every 5k or twice a year-- with the oreilly crap. I keep it right on the dot. Oil is the blood of an engine. Clean it and don't deprive it.

Just an FYI for you guys that think oil changes are too expensive. I swung by Autozone to pick up some Penzoil Platinum, and they had a really good deal. You could get 5 quarts of Penzoil Platinum, with an M1 oil filter for $28. I think it ended up being $37 with an extra quart, and taxes.

So instead until you hit the 10k mark, go get some of this stuff.

I had a story told to me by a friend, that his Father actually thought like this and burned up a motor is his Chevy truck back in the 70's.

Figuring, hey that's a 350 with 4 bolt mains lets see if we can use it. My friend & his son pulled off a valve cover to find so much sludge that a screwdriver stood upright in it for hours until the Grandad go home to see it.

3K is over kill imo, there have been a few threads on various boards where a guy has sent his oil in to be analyzed and everytime came back that it would have been fine to run longer. granted 10K is WAYYYYYYY past due, even if it is ALL hiway.
i run mine for around 5K, be kind to the motor and you'll be ok with 5K.

most of us are not kind to our motors. if you can only do one thing for the car, that would be frequent oil changes. yall should be horse-whipped for leaving that **** in there for over 3,000 miles. what are you driving, a friggin diesel truck?

i change mine at 3k. i'd never consider going close to 10k but if you did i would at the very least change the filter at 5k.

Why would you? I probably change it every 2-3k miles(maybe less seeing the car is strictly a nice weather car). You can get a jug of full syn. at walmart for around 20 bucks and a Gm filter for 4 so why milk the change out til 10k miles.

My z28 gets it's oil changed every 1500 miles since it sits 95% of the time.

My POS DD gets a oil change every 10-15k. . . . Yeah, I know that's bad. But, the motor is on the way out.

If you somewhat like your car and want the engine to last. Never go longer then 5k. IMO

I would like to think you are kidding but I don't think you are. 34k miles on one oil change is wrong. You might as well of just ran water in it. Sure it ran now but you just shortened the life of the motor by 30k miles. You are an idiot.
