thank you but amsoil who i say knows way more than you says its ok and my 2002 tahoe that gets 24mpg with 22s and runs flawlessly with now 160K+ miles on it says your not so smart yourself and the techs at amsoil are. I must say it was a gamble i was hoping it would ruin the motor so i would have a good reason to put a 402 in it but in fact its running now as good as ever on its 3rd one year interval change the year after the 34K it went 29.5K and this year its looking like another 30+K...

main thing is to keep a good filter and check the oil if its brokin down change it i never let my oil get brokin down if you change your oil earlier than 5K your wasting money but the good thing is its your money to waste.

I run amsoil in my truck and change it every 7,500. I believe amsoil states you can run it as long as a year or 20,000 miles.

In my camaro on the other hand i use kendall and change it about every 1000.. but mostly cuz I'm constantly doing something to it

Used Amsoil sig series 0w30 and run it for 5000 miles, could run it longer because the oil samples say so. but just change it with the filter.

Is that same person going to buy you a new motor? Mobil1 is junk. Use Royal Purple. If you can't afford it then use Castrol.

Amsoil from all the tests I have seen conducted CAN last 10k+ miles no problem, but Amsoil is expensive. I usually change mine between 4500-6000 miles using RP... I wouldn't feel comfortable running it longer then that but that every 3000 miles scam was made up back in the day to help boost oil sales and was largely based on conventional oil that had none of the modern day detergents. Even conventional oil these days should be good for 4500 miles in a daily driver type car... Of course I run the synthetic as an added protection that my oil can last 4500+miles....but ya that's my .02 anyways.

Really?! pour...waste..broken..not that difficult.
Now for the highlighted sentences. You are bashing people for "wasting" money on frequent oil changes, but you, yourself, just posted you tried to purposely blow an engine. That's not wasting money? Also by stating such you have essentially agreed that going too long between oil changes is detrimental to an engine. Or at least that was your thoughts too.

If you use a quality synthetic oil and a quality oil filter you could go 10k miles. Topping off is a big part of keeping that 10k mile interval going. Your oil should be one with a high TBN to start with, as well. If you have doubts as to whether what you are doing is smart for you, have an oil analysis done at the end of the interval to see what is going on in your motor.

Modern oils have come a long way in the last decade and you really have to look hard to find a BAD oil. For that reason, the only people that might come out ahead by using synthetic oil over long intervals would be those that rack up huge miles and 3k mile intervals would be every other week or two.

The LS1 is a quality engine and is not so delicate as some would think. What kills me is the folks that go on about the engine being from the right hand of G@d in one breath, and in the very next breath would say it needs extra care and pampering.

In the end, do what you will. It's your money.

It amazes me how much this subject gets beat to death. I use to have a customer at the Honda dealer I worked for that always wanted samples of his Amsoil and wanted to know how the oil "looked". It looked like dirty old oil!
I've had plenty of engines and seen plenty more that went 5k-10k or more on oil changes all the time and went over 200,000 miles. I've also seen engines spin bearings at 70k miles from a lack of maintenance. It's cheap insurance to change it often. And bad for the environment to change it at 3k? Give me a break. Oil is recyclable, and if you're THAT worried about the environment ride a bike. We have bigger problems than too much used oil being recycled.

Personally, I use regular oil and change it around 3k. Water condenses in oil and makes sludge, blow by gasses contaminate it, it breaks down over time, etc.

Mobil 1 and a Wix filter in my 02 Tahoe every 7,500 miles, comes out just as gold as when it goes in. My 01 SS gets Amsoil and a Wix filter about once a year which usually has went less than 2,000 miles.

STREETRACEGUY... 34K miles is too long even though your using Amsoil, and I know they guarantee 25k mile oil changes, but thats crazy.
