Default specific reliability questions

To expand on that thread about reliability, if something does go wrong, how much will it cost for parts and/or fixing it? I used to own a 79 4speed camaro and parts were **** cheap, and the setup was relativley simple for the entire car. How are the prices for parts for the ls1? I know that the old LT1's had issues with the optispark system because of shitty parts placement, any such same things with the new ls1's?

This is something weird, I go to check some issues at carpoint.com about the camaro and firebird. They had similar issues in some departments, but what the hell is up with the tranny in the firebird (camaro trannies listed no probs)? Anyone had any issues?

Thanks

I believe they are the same exact tranny, but I could be wrong.

Most LT1 parts were crap. LS1s are definitely of a much higher quality.

Hope this helped... I'll let some of the more knowledgeable guys handle this in the morning. I may have a lot of posts, but I'm still a n00b... check my reg date.

I don't think many parts are that expensive, but i've yet to get into any major repairs.

Just a noob as well, but from personal experience parts shouldn't be that much. Especially if you look to the right at some or our sponsors, if anything does go wrong you can usually find a good deal on them. The only thing I have to do is change the front brake rotors, but that's just cause I was driving like an ***, heh heh.

Regular maitenence stuff is about 4x as expensive as a regular SBC, especially engine accessories.

Small Block Chevy. Most often referring to the Gen I 350 made before 1992.
