So in the end it sounds like either 5/30 or 10/30 but most posts seem to be using synthetic vs. conventional. Just curious if anyone is using conventional. Also in summary which seemed to quiet the "ticking" noise the best? 10/30 synthetic M1 or Penz-Platinum?
Just picked up an 02 35'th anniversary convt with 14k miles and will make first oil change. Thanks for input

I would use either a w30 with the oils on the "thicker" end of a 30, or a w40 with the oils on the "thinner" end of a 40. 0w will give best cold start protection.
I like M1 0W40. It's all I use in LS1s. Some people like other oils that are harder to find. I don't like hunting for oil, it's bad enough that I already have to do that with my old flat tappet SBC to get proper ZDDP content.

10W40 M1 High Mileage here. 134K LS1 with a little piston slap and bottom end noise. Still holding up strong, great oil pressure. Changed every 5k and topped off as needed. Sits in a garage November to February so seldom drives cold.
