Newbie needs answer Purchased 01 SS a month ago. Immediately changed oil (Mobil 1). Previous owner used reg Pennzoil (Oil change sticker was on windshield.) After about 4K miles, LOW OIL came on. No leaks. Is this normal? I tried a forum search w/ no result. Car's not smoking or anything. NBD if it's normal, I'll just change oil sooner. But the the car was about 1 quart and a half down. Also car has 58k miles on it. Thanks for any help.
No need to fret.
Simply turn the key on, push your "trip odometer" button & hold until the light blinks.
Once it stops, the system is reset.
Do this after every oil change.

No, I know about that light. The LOW OIL is a different light. In addition, I checked the level, and it was low. About a quart and a half. I added the quart and a half. No probs since, I just wanted know how much, if any oil burning is common. A friend of mine w/ a 5.3 (truck) says his burns/loses about a quart every 4k. Just need to know if this is normal, or do I have a problem with my new(to me) car?
Well keep an eye on it.
There are some motors that seem to have a problem.
If yours continues to be a problem then you'll have to figure out where it is going.
Sometimes the PCV mods work, or catch can, if it is ingesting it thru intake..
If you do a search it will show up.

01-02's seem to have a bit more oil consumption then the other years. do a search on pcv mods, catch can, ls6 valley cover mod, ect. also you can try a different oil blend and weight.

im going through about a half a quart a week... amsoil 5w30.... i know for shure that it went a breaf period of time with no air filter

Sorry to hear that. I have a 2000 with 122K. Luckily, i have not had that problem. My car "might" burn 1/2 quart between oil changes. Q 6K.

A similar problem happened to me not too long agao, but I was in the middle of hammering on the car when the low oil light came on. Sometimes they burn oil, sometimes they dont. Hey, Ford says that buring a quart between changes is normal, so who knows. Just keep an eye on it. It seems every hard to figure out problem is fixed by a heads/cam swap. =)
