Default Cam install?
How much would a Cam install on a 2000 SS run me by a shop and by mechanic in his own shop?

Give or take $1500 depending on the rate in your area. This is for cam/valvetrain as well as a dyno tune.

I cannot stress this enough... if you are going to a shop, make sure they are reputable.

If you live in florida in teh central florida region i know of someone who does work and has hp tuners.

Cam the best bang for the buck? May just go FI instead.

I bought all my own parts and took them to the shop and they charged me $800 installed/tuned

Honestly, it depends on how much power you want to make. Nitrous is really the best bang for the buck. But some people don't want to use it for whatever reason.

If you are only looking for 400-450hp, a cam, or H/C setup is definitely the best route to go.

If you have big plans for the car, then a turbo/supercharger are going to be the route to go. There is a wall an NA car hits, where anything beyond that point gets expensive (ie big stroker). A turbo or supercharged car will be the cheapest route to go at that point.
