Default ATF In F-body Power steering fluid???

I learned that GTO's take Dexron III ATF instead of regular power stearing fluid. Can we use ATF in our 4th gens also? And if we can will it work better than ps fluid? Just a quick thought and thought i should ask.

I never knew that..I guess that is a good replacement if I need something real quick.

Is there an adverse reaction if they mix together?

My friend got some LT headers installed on his 04 S/C GTO and he called me the other day and told me that he had gone to the store to but Power Steering fluid and that when he went to fill up the PS reservoir the lid said Dexron III ATF Fluid only. I didnt beleive him so i searched it up and sure enough he was right. I heard that some guys use synthetic ATF in the PS and that the steering felt better so i thought i should ask about it on F-bodys.

Well never really noticed a difference in PS fluid and in atf. Idk about synthetic haven't tried it but would be interested in knowing.

you can use atf in a car that takes ps fluid, but dont use ps fluid in a car that calls for atf. PS fluid is thicker than ATF, so the pump with whine really bad if you put ps fluid in a car that calls for atf.
