T56 Shifters?
Hi Guys,
I am in the middle of a LS1/T56 swap into a kit car. Short story is the car was originally registered incorrectly when it was built as a 2002, and we are now moving to an emissions regulated state. The 383 Iron block had to go in favor of this setup i pulled from a 2004 Pontiac GTO.
The shifter in the GTO T56 sits a long way back from where i need it to be. I noticed when i took it out that it is set back 3" or so from where the shifter actually moves the shaft of the gearbox. My question is, excluding gearing and spline counts, are all T56's the same? I need the shifter 3" forward from the stock location, roughly 6" forward of the GTO location. I have seen shifter options for the Mustang Cobra's and the GM's up to 2002. I was wondering if this is purely because of where it puts the shifter, or if the actual gearboxes differ??
