help! red check engine light

i have a'98 t/a m6 with 114000 miles. i've resently installed a pro 5.0 shifter, and last night i was practicing my full throttle shifting, and about 4000+rpm, the red check engine light would flash but would turn of as soon as it dropped below 4k. my ses light is on, i beilve due to the 'free egr mod' i did to it, if that helps any. it hasn't ever done this before that i've knowticed(althouh i havn't even had the car for a month) and i was worried b/c the # of miles and i've heard the red engine light itsn't good news. thanks for the help

go to (autozone,pep boys,advance auto parts), get free codes read, type them in forum.

last time i checked autozone for 100% free. quit guessing?

If its flashing...could be a misfire...not sure...you should have it scanned if you dont have a predator/autotap you can go to autozone and they will get the code for you...good luck

thanks for all, i just got back from autozone, they checked it and said it indeed was my egr due to my modification, and also, it wasn't a 'check engine light' as i said i looked closer at it (not lit up) and it said "check guages" so i was wondering would it flash and then go back of due to high oil pressure or somthing, b/c the car hasn't ever had a history of overheating or low voltage. thanks

maybe your mad acceleration + low gas tank = check gauges

My EGR tube has been cut for three years w/o setting a code.

probably because you did it right. alot of guys cut the wrong part or **** up the gasket seal and it leaks. i just got an ls6 intake and removed mine all together
