Ok guys well i've been looking up and down this site and others for about 2 days straight and cant find a close enough answer, so maybe somebody can help me if i ask directly.

I started getting a weird valve-train sounding knock near the driver side head, at first i thought maybe i bent a rod but learned it only happens once the car is warmed up so i doubt its a pushrod, maybe its a lifter or a rocker? It sounds like its higher in the motor so maybe its just a stuck lifter. Im not to sure.

I put about half a bottle of Seafoam in the crankcase to see if it helps out the lifters or not and just let it idle till it starts knocking then turning it off. but it's causing my oil pressure gauge to now bounce up and down maybe +/- 5 lbs. Haven't noticed a serious drop in pressure, but its still bouncing with the knock.

Any ideas? i plan on taking it to Speedtek Performance in Haltom City, TX in the next few days to get it checked out if i cant figure it myself.

I'm no mechanic, so any advice would help a TON. Thanks for reading, and mods if needed are in my Sig

The LS1 motors are notorious for knocking. Mine knocks on initial start up then goes away after it warms up. As far as the oil pressure, mine bounces around as well but never drops to an alarming low pressure. Well the wierd part is it doesn't do it on cold start-ups, only after sitting for a few minutes and gets to around 200F then it wont stop, would this be a lifter?

The variance in oil pressure (if the gauge is reading accurately) is what scares me here...

It bounces slightly, ill upload a video later of it and the knock, i have no idea whats causing it, piston slap.. speedtek guy over the phone said it could have been a rod knock, could have bent a rod, or i doubt its a stuck lifter.

just changed the oil with Mobil1 5W-30 and Mobil1 filter, it knocked right on startup then stopped after a second and my oil pressure flew up to 40, let it idle and get some new oil in there and still started knocking noticeably around 170-175

I'm no mechanic but there is something def out of wack. I would take it to a shop asap to get looked at if you can't do the work yourself.

that video was before i changed the oil, now the pressure stays at about 40, maybe with little movement, but still knocks

taking it to a shop hopefully tomorrow if i can get off work at a decent time

Are you talking about temp? These cars are designed to run at 230 degrees with no problems.

No, I'm sorry I just read my post and see where I went wrong. I was talking about my oil pressure.

When you changed the oil did you notice any metal shavings in the oil? That would be a good indication of a bearing failure.

There looked like some metal shavings on the plug bolt, but never noticed any actually in the oil and i looked for that also

i had a lifter tick issue after my heads cam install but your car doesn't sound like what mine did. Also my oil pressure never moved like that. I would not drive the car though, get it looked at by somebody who knows LS1's really well.

ok well i drove it to a real close shop that i trust, they're all certified GM mechanics and they believe its my main bearing. He said he could put a crank kit in there but wouldn't with that many miles on the motor ( i have 110,000) so my best bet would just be a new motor

just bought the car 3 months ago, already put in as much as i paid for the car, have no tools of my own for repairs, and little mechanic knowledge at 18. So it looks likes its going to be a year long project or so before i can get it running again(hopefully with a new motor)

Im thinking about pulling the motor apart and maybe selling all the good parts in the classifieds to raise money for the new motor...

i live in red oak, if you needed another opinion you could bring it by. I could even do the work and find you a motor if that's necessary.

I'd totally take it to red oak i just dont trust the motor to last that far of a drive, im located in GP so thats at least like a 30-45 minute drive =\

debating on saving up for a new motor, or just a new LS1 block and reuse my heads, maybe try and get them ported and clean them up.
