Default serpentine belt

Bought and installed a dayco belt & it is a little longer than the old belt. On the tensioner the line was between the narrow lines with the old belt and with the new belt it is between the wider lines. Should I use it or try to get a smaller belt.

I would double check and make sure you got the correct belt....new belts tend to be slightly shorter than the one they replace due to the old one being stretched from use.
Also I am not sure which lines you are talking about, maybe someone else will chime in on that. I guess I have never paid attn that closely when I replaced my belt.

I am pretty sure its the correct belt I watched the counter man bring up all the info on the computer and checked the number. The lines im talking about is a single casting mark on the part of the tensioner that pivots and three casting marks on the stationary part with a narrow space when belt is tight and a wider space when belt is looser.

is it so much longer that it wont work on the car? if it works on the car with no issues that i'd just use it. it's possible that whoever put the previous belt on used one too short.

thanks dutinsss. the new belt fits fine under tension just not as much with the old belt. the old one had the tensioner almost all the way compressed, it could of been the wrong one on there. i will run the new one & see how it goes.

If you have an underdrive pulley then you'd need a shorter belt. Do you have one? If so then any autoparts store belt number in their computer is wrong.
