Default air dam upper plastic piece?

I was doing some searching for my overheating issue and found this post:

I put my lower air dam on, and that helped, but my temps are still getting up to 230° or so.

But what is the upper plastic piece phildo is talking about??

not sure on the plastic piece, but my car will hit 230* commonly in this heat. If you want to prevent that, then install a 160 or 180 thermostat

No, not all the time. It runs cooler at night, and it does get lower when at idle. 230° is a little high for me. This is WITH a 160° thermostat, DexCool, and Purple Ice.

I found these plastic pieces in my garage; I'm wondering if one of them is the upper plastic piece that dude was talking about (I'm not sure what these pieces are for):

Can anyone confirm what these are or where they go?

Yup those are the pieces he's talking about. I just finished taking them OFF my car. I can't imagine they do a damn thing to help with cooling.

If anyone knows if those do help with cooling then feel free to correct me.

Did some more research - yes, they both are pieces that direct air to the radiator. Apparently these cars need them because they're set at an angle and not a lot of air hits the radiator from the front. It's worth a try, since it's free. Crossing my fingers on this though, I really don't know how much of a difference that will make, but if it's designed to move air toward the radiator, it's got to help some at least.

I found the diagram of how they go together too:
