Default Question about SLP

Hey guys.. me again.

I just recently posted about spending some cash and where you guys were gonna spend it.

I've just read the thread about beginning mod mistakes and it blew me away! Fantastic thread!

My question is this.. a few of the options i was considering involved some parts by SLP.. lid, loudmouth, etc..

I see a lot of negative feedback on SLP in the thread.. what gives? I thought they were fairly reputable.. but..then again.. I am a noob!

If not slp.. what exhaust setup would be recommended..something moderately priced and performs well FOR THE MONEY... and lids.. what brand lids do you guys recommend?

I dont think the products you wish to buy are bad. I have a Loudmouth, and I like it a lot. It's just that SLP is over priced and there is usually better stuff for the money. Stick with the Loudmouth, but maybe consider the LS1 Motorsports lid. It's only 75 bucks

SLP treats their customers like crap. Have you heard the loudmouth? Its not named that for no reason. If you want the loudest Camaro on the block then go for it. I would go for the magnaflow. But its not even close to the noise of the loudmouth. But it will perform just a well for the money. Just make sure you like the tips. As far as lids go. If I made a decision today I would go for Texas Speed and Performace lid.

I'm not really out for a loud exhaust...just a crisp sounding exhaust...

I'll check out the magnaflows... is there no way to keep the stock tops or something similar?

I'll also look into that Texas speed lid

thanks tons!

I've purchased some SLP bolt-ons. Customer Service has been outstanding. I got exactly what I expected in very short order. I did my homework before I purchased everything for my car. I used the following considerations 1) quality (I don't want re-install anything once I've done it) 2) fitment (I don't care how long it takes to install, I don't want leaks, etc.) 3) customer serivce
Although I did not list $$$, I feel that I got good bang for my buck(s) Consider this: If SLP is garbage, why are so many of the sponsors selling their parts?

Look into a Hooker catback. I love mine. Barely louder than stock when cruising but it roars at WOT. Most people prefer the sound of mine over my friend's Corsa on her WS6 (especially when price is mentioned). Awesome bang for the buck! I also have a SLP lid and I'm ok with it. From what I've heard, go with TSP.

well since your already read my newbie mod mistake thread you know my stand on slp

hooker and magnaflow are great budget catbacks. and a direct flow or tsp lid is the way to go.

Hmmmmmmmmm?, without SLP would there be an SS or Firehawk? The famous SS hood? Being produced for other vehicles? Yes you can bash me and say they are overpriced for what you get, thats fine and dandy.Funny thing is on there headers were they or not one of the first to make headers for the 4th gen?Yes the drivers side does hang down a bit low,but how many others out there are stainless and coated? There usually one or the other(exc. options avail.). Then the SLP's are cheaper if you pay for the option of being stainless and coated on the others.Lastly back to the ones that bash the SS's and Firehawks, what is usually the first body modification to there cars? SS hood or the Ram-air hood

uh most people do the GO over SHOW route anyway. i love people who think an SS or Firehawk are the **** cuz its got some half assed CAI system . and yes slp was one of the first to come out with long tubes, but now with the header market being what it is now there is no reason to get them, if they lowered the price then i could see it but with kooks and qtp's taking the top notch as far as quality, fit and finish why even look at the slp's, not to mention they hang low. i've yet to hear anyone who has a high quality stainless steel setup rust so the stainless steel and coating point is moot. and SLP didnt invent aftermarket hood , they just happen to use them.

i do gotta hand it to SLP they, they got one hell of a marketing scheme.

Seriously the kooks and qtp's do fit a hell of a lot better then the Slp's,hands down better, costs wise put them in stainless and coated(yes stainless do get rust particles embedded in to them),and the slp's come in a hell of alot cheaper,go compare for yourself, and since people GO the show route as was stated, wouldn't you want have shiny coated headers vs. uncoated?

i have jet hots and am fine with them and i live in cali where we get no snow and very little rain. i could get away with uncoated headers and be fine. go and ask the qtp kooks people about there headers rusting, you'll be hard pressed to find them. even the jet hot/hookers rusting are a miniority. why is it you dont find many people swapping pacesetters, jethots/hookers, kooks/qtps for slp's. its usually the other way around . they are not a "bad header" by no means but with all the other great options out there i dont see spending 800 bucks on slp headers as a good idea.

slp makes a decent product, priced high, but your paying for the name.

They have done a lot of engineering, and allow a lot of "no harm done" modifications to these vehicles. Allowing to go back to stock, (subframe connectors, fan switch, ect... )

Most of the products are good, there are just some better products out there, either better products, or cheaper equilivent products.

I personally don't run any slp parts on my car, but a slp blackwing air lid. I am not a fan of the company, but i won't bash them for no reason.

I do like their designs, so i have reverse engineered, and copied their fan switch, and made my own, as well as in the process of copying a set of their bolt in subframe connectors. End up with good parts, and 1/5th the cost.

Ryan.

Much respect for you JRP as you have many post, and are knowlegable to the LS'1's,I say again price the "others" in stainless and coated, over a grand if I am not mistaken, but will gladly stand corrected if in the wrong, then the Slp's are the cheaper ones. All three sets of coated headers that I have had rusted (Hookers,Hedmans,Pace- setters),but yet I have yet to see the stainless and coated headers rust.

Id Get A Used Borla To Me Thats The Only Exaust (imo), As Far As Slp Goes I Agree With Most In Saying They Have Pritty Good Products But They Are Dicks When It Comes To Returns And Not All Their Sales Staff Are Knoledgable In Their Product Lines... They Do Make Some Good Stuff But It Is Overpriced (and GooD But Never Really The Best Just Pritty Good) So For Thing Like A Lid Id Ust Get A Used One Thats In Good Condition Its Not Gonna Go Bad... All Well Hell Even If They Were The Best Id Still Just Go Get Your Exau7st And Lid Used Their They Type Of Stuff That Dont Really Break Down And You Can Seve Alot On Ls1 Tech I Bouight My Borla Used And Love It For Only 350 My Lid On The Other Hand I Was Dumb And Got Ripped A New One By Slp On It Finally If Ya Buy Slp Products I Just Wouldent Buy Em Direct Beacouse I Knoe Id Rather Deal With Some Of The Great Guys At Thunder Or Lm Peformance Than Slp

I have the SLP Loudmouth exhaust and absolutely love it!!! It bolted right up and fit was excellent. I love the way my car sounds now, and loudmouth is one of the best flowing catbacks available. I didn't deal direct with SLP though, I bought mine through Texas Speed and Performance. I have the TSP smoked clear lid and couldn't be happier. I didn't have any fitment issues with it whatsoever.

i think you would be happy with a borla and if not then just change the plates to one that better suits you. once ya put it on youll never have to worry about it, having a million mile warranty.
