ls3 swap whats involved
sorry for being such a newb when it comes to this. I am looking to get a new trans am and came across one that supposedly has a ls3 crate motor with low miles and I was wondering what all involved with the swap and how could I tell that it is even a ls3

The ls3 swap into an fbody isnt all that hard but requires a conversion box for the crank reluctor wheel along with a couple extension harnesses for sensors. If it infact has an ls3 motor in it the intake should have 4 bolts for the throttle body instead of 3 like the ls1 has. next look at the casting numbers on the heads 823 is a common one but there are other numbers they could be so look the up also on the front of the intake right behind the TB should be the map sensor on the ls1 this sensor is on the back of the intake.

With the hot cam version you'd def be able to hear the cam in the engine idle. Ive also seen 4 digit head casting numbers like 5324 another one is 821 as far as any others youd probably need to do a little more research... The itake manifold should be the best giveaway as it will only mate to the l92 style heads which are standard on the ls3.
