When you guys launch your cars"stock converter" does anyone put a load on the car to the point where the wheels almost spin or is that to much?

Depends on the converter but for me, on stock stalls, I just allowed the converter to flash itself.

Yes, I always load the TC (even a stock one) just a little bit. Not to the point of almost spinning the tires, but just enough to take up some of the drivetrain slack. For the stock stall, just a few hundered rpm above idle is enough.

I'm not sure what you mean RPM by "slack", please explain? When you let your foot off a stock stalled 4l setup, you should roll forward without any throttle command, no? I figured to add some load was just to get a few hundred extra rpms, not to offset "slack"?

The stock torque converter has a stall speed higher than stock idle rpms (about 1600 for LS1s, IIRC), so technically there is a bit of "slack" (or looseness/whatever term you prefer) in that as well, it's just not noticeable compared to higher stalls. Even with a higher stall TC, you will still roll forward by just taking your foot off the brake. It's not that the car won't move, it just "slips" you to a higher rpm faster. Even with a 4000+ stall, the car will still move forward on level ground with no brake or throttle input, when in gear.

I guess in this context though, the slack is more relating to loading the suspension a bit first, rather than shocking the tires by going from 0% TPS to WOT instantly. I usually get a more useful launch by bringing rpms up from idle a bit, even with the stock stall. So there is both drivetrain and suspension slack (or preload) to be considered.
